We invite you to join us on June 14, 2019, 4:00-5:00 p.m. to learn more about forging gigs and gigging fish from Ray Joe Hastings-- master blacksmith, community scholar, and gig maker/collector. We can think of no one better to discuss the context of artist Howard Baer's "Gigging, The Current River," a 1947 watercolor currently on exhibit in "Missouri Nostalgia: Works on Paper from the Scruggs-Vandervoort-Barney Collection."
In 2008, Mr. Hastings (Doniphan, Mo.) wrote and self-published _Bow & River Gigs: Used in the Clear Streams of the Ozarks_, drawing on decades of experience in this Ozark Riverways regional tradition, as well as his vast collection of local hand-forged gigs and hands-on experience forging gigs, first as an apprentice then as a master artist.
