I-70 Bridge Work Starts Aug. 26

The westbound I-70 driving lane will be closed from 9 p.m. on Aug. 26 to 5 a.m. on Aug. 27 and again from 9 p.m. on Aug. 27 to 5 a.m. on Aug. 28 to allow for barrier placement. In addition, one northbound and one southbound lane of Rangeline will be closed from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Aug. 26 and 27 to reconfigure the current traffic lanes under I-70. These lanes will be reduced to 10 feet to allow for the construction of the new bridges over Rangeline.
The sidewalks along Rangeline Street between I-70 and Vandiver Drive will be closed for several months beginning Monday due to the construction. Pedestrians and bicyclists are advised to detour around the closed sidewalks by taking Business Loop 70 to Providence Road to Vandiver Drive. They can also use Columbia’s public transit system, COMO Connect, to travel through the area. The Co-Mo Connect Black Connector has stops at Boone Electric Cooperative and Rangline on the south side of I-70 and at Rangeline and Vandiver on the north side of I-70. Maps showing the pedestrian detour route and the COMO Black Connector Route can be found online at www.modot.org/ColumbiaBridges.
Upon closing the sidewalk, the contractor will begin clearing and earth work for the westbound I-70 bridge at Rangeline, as well as installing safety traffic barriers along I-70 at the Rangeline and Garth intersections. The shoulder will be closed between the ramps on I-70 at Rangeline, as well as between the westbound on ramp at Providence and the Garth bridge and from the Garth bridge approximately 800 feet to the west. Utility relocations will be underway at Garth for the relocation of some existing overhead utilities running along the west side of Garth.
