Over the past few months, we've had a lot of press, but not a lot of focus on the work we've been doing for the Business Loop. Here's the highlights:
- Worked with MODOT to redesign the I-70 bridge project to be more accessible for pedestrians and cyclists who want to cross I-70. Part of this will also include a new crosswalk on the west end that would allow people to safely cross Business Loop.
- Began advocating the city fully fund the next two phases of undergrounding utility lines from Providence eastward. The project is included in the Capital Improvements Project list but not yet funded.
- Successfully advocated on behalf of the MKT-to-Parkade Bike Boulevard and are working on ways to promote the route to employees, residents, and customers on The Loop.
- Working with the City on the proposed zoning changes that will include density bonuses for transit-oriented developments, reduced parking requirements, and new uses such as artisan industries and farmers markets.
- Active member of the Mayor’s Task Force on Pedestrian Safety and working on ways to redesign infrastructure to prevent car crashes and pedestrian injuries.
- Started the process of addressing key stormwater needs on a district-wide level to reduce flooding and improve water quality.
- Built a strong relationship with Mizzou North, especially the Museum of Art and Archaeology and the Museum of Anthropology. The City has agreed to allow us to install banners along the length of the corridor to better promote these key assets.
- Conducted an assessment of the corridor in cooperation with the City, GetAbout, and PedNet to determine how to improve the bikeability of the street.
- Conducted a community survey to determine what the priorities should be for The Loop, in anticipation of a consultant-driven planning process.
- Launched a number of social media sites and a new website (complete with business listings and vacancy listings) to better promote The Loop. Our first Small Business Saturday promotion used these online platforms to highlight the many small, locally owned businesses on The Loop.
