We're pleased to introduce The Packing House, a component of our CoMo Cooks Shared Kitchen designed for local growers interested developing and manufacturing value-added food products.
We teamed up with Root Cellar and Greenbelt Land Trust of Mid-Missouri on a USDA Local Food Promotion Program grant . This grant will build local food system resilience and help our region adapt to market changes brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic by assisting regional growers with small-batch production, product distribution, and promotion. In other words, stop stressing about the empty shelves in your local grocery store because we're ramping up the local food providers. The CoMo Cooks Shared Kitchen is playing key role in this effort by providing affordable kitchen space and equipment to farmers throughout the Mid-Missouri region.
We've already had the folks from the Root Cellar in our temporary space to freeze peaches, blackberries, and bell peppers. By providing equipment like blast freezers, bag sealers, and dehydrators, we can give farmers throughout the region a quick and easy way to process excess or imperfect crops.
Any growers interested in using our kitchen on a seasonal basis can visit our website for more information.
