Now that the City's $2 million grant is finally, officially, 100% green-lighted, we're wasting no time getting started!
Great River Engineering has been hired for the project and they're starting work this week. First step is surveying the street so they'll be bringing out the lasers and the drones to create an overview of the entire corridor that can be used to make a high resolution map--and one that can be modified to test out proposed upgrades. This is a technical necessity but also a great way to show everyone what changes would look like.
Once they have all these details, they'll be able to start gathering public input so look for in-person and online options starting sometime early 2026, including an opportunity for input on the City's BeHeardCoMo site.
Remind me, what's this planning process for again?
The goal of this process is to create a shovel-ready plan for reconstruction--meaning all the engineering documents that are required before we start digging holes.
The planning area runs from Stadium Blvd. to the new Conley Road Bridge and there's a lot of goals we're trying to accomplish. We need a comprehensive stormwater management plan to prevent flooding and allow redevelopment on vacant lots; an environmental impact analysis due to the amount of construction required; an assessment of traffic patterns to improve access to businesses; detailed engineering for new sidewalks, crosswalks, and bike lanes; recommendations on changes to the zoning code; and even some economic development planning.
Once we have this shovel-ready plan, we are in a better position to apply for capital improvement funding.
