I-70 Bridge Project

Expected traffic impacts week of Feb. 1

Rangeline Street

The southbound lanes of Rangeline from just south of the eastbound I-70 off-ramp will be closed from 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 3 until 5 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4. Motorists using the I-70 eastbound off-ramp will not be able to travel south on Rangeline as a result. All other ramps will remain open. Drivers are encouraged to use Providence Road during the closure.

The northbound lanes of Rangeline will be closed just south of the eastbound I-70 on- ramp from 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4 to 5 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 5. There will be no access to I-70 from northbound Rangeline during this time. Motorists are encouraged to use Providence or Business Loop instead.

The closures will allow the contractor, Emery Sapp and Sons, to install new drainage systems for the Rangeline improvements.

Garth Avenue

Garth Avenue will be closed between the last entrance to Bob McCosh Chevrolet and Texas Avenue from 6 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4 to 6 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 6. Emery Sapp will be driving piles for the new I-70 bridge over Garth.

Expected traffic impacts week of Feb. 8

Rangeline Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction beginning Feb. 8, weather permitting.

The lane closings are scheduled to last 30 days while the contractor builds the new eastbound I-70 bridge and retaining walls at Rangeline.

More information on the Rangeline closure, including a traffic flow diagram, will be available in the near future.

I-70 Reminder

Local motorists should avoid I-70 through Columbia as much as possible until this project is finished next fall. Local residents who are used to traveling I-70 as an east-west city street are asked to use other options to prevent cross-state traffic from becoming snarled. The less traffic in the area, the faster and safer the work can be completed.

Pedestrian Impacts

The sidewalks along Rangeline Street between I-70 and Vandiver Drive remains closed due to the construction. Pedestrians and bicyclists are advised to detour around the closed sidewalks by taking Business Loop 70 to Providence Road to Vandiver Drive.  They can also use Columbia’s public transit system, COMO Connect, to travel through the area. The Co-Mo Connect Black Connector has stops at Boone Electric Cooperative and Rangeline on the south side of I-70 and at Rangeline and Vandiver on the north side of I-70.  Maps showing the pedestrian detour route and the COMO Black Connector Route can be found online at www.modot.org/ColumbiaBridges. NOTE: COMO Connect will give free rides to people needing to get through Rangeline as long as construction lasts.

The sidewalk along Garth Avenue between Business Loop and East Texas Avenue will be closed to pedestrian traffic until next summer. Pedestrians and bicyclists are advised to detour around the closed sidewalk by taking Business Loop 70 to Providence Road to East Texas Avenue. A map showing the pedestrian detour route can be found on the project website -  www.modot.org/ColumbiaBridges.
