I-70 Bridge Update

From MODOT:

Expected traffic impacts week of Feb. 29:

Rangeline Street is reduced to one lane in each direction until mid-March while the contractor builds the new eastbound I-70 bridge and retaining walls at Rangeline.

The left southbound lane is closed from south of Vandiver Drive to south of the eastbound I-70 off-ramp. The right northbound lane will be closed from south of the eastbound I-70 on-ramp to the westbound I-70 off-ramp.

As a result, there will be no access to northbound Rangeline from eastbound I-70.  All other ramp movements will remain open.

A diagram showing the traffic flow is available on MoDOT’s website - www.modot.org/central.

NOTE: The sidewalk between the westbound off-ramp and eastbound on-ramp at Business Loop will remain closed for several months.

Work will soon begin on the Business Loop Phase of the project, which includes:

Building a new I-70 bridge

Constructing two dual-lane roundabouts on the north and south sides of I-70

Improving access to I-70 Drive SW

Decreasing traffic delays on Creasy Springs

Pedestrian Impacts:

The sidewalks along Rangeline Street between I-70 and Vandiver Drive remains closed due to the construction. Pedestrians and bicyclists are advised to detour around the closed sidewalks by taking Business Loop 70 to Providence Road to Vandiver Drive.  They can also use Columbia’s public transit system, COMO Connect, to travel through the area. The Co-Mo Connect Black Connector has stops at Boone Electric Cooperative and Rangeline on the south side of I-70 and at Rangeline and Vandiver on the north side of I-70.  Maps showing the pedestrian detour route and the COMO Black Connector Route can be found online at www.modot.org/ColumbiaBridges. NOTE: COMO Connect will give free rides to people needing to get through Rangeline as long as construction lasts.

The sidewalk along Garth Avenue between Business Loop and East Texas Avenue will be closed to pedestrian traffic until next summer. Pedestrians and bicyclists are advised to detour around the closed sidewalk by taking Business Loop 70 to Providence Road to East Texas Avenue. A map showing the pedestrian detour route can be found on the project website -  www.modot.org/ColumbiaBridges.
