The MKT to Parkade Bike Boulevard is moving along and we've got an update for you.
The city is submitting the plans to MODOT this week and if they have no additional comments, the project will go out to bid in mid to late June. Any construction would start in September at the earliest. (Of course, if MODOT has additional comments, construction would be pushed back until next spring.)
If you're unfamiliar with the proposed bike boulevard, it is a marked path through the neighborhoods to the south which will connect the Business Loop to the MKT Trail. Cyclists will share the road with cars, although non-residential drivers will be encouraged to take roads such as Garth or West instead. The bike boulevard will also have bike-friendly infrastructure and signage.
This is a great opportunity to connect The Loop to the surrounding neighborhoods and will help us encourage bike travel to work or school. In fact, there is also a planned spur along Forrest Avenue to Hickman High.
For more details, read about it in the Columbia Missourian and follow us on Facebook and Twitter for updates.
