The City of Columbia has begun its search for Columbia’s next police chief following the announcement of Geoff Jone’s retirement on Aug. 1, 2023. As part of this process, members of the community and various community groups will have an opportunity to provide feedback on what makes the ideal candidate for the position during community forums.
The City Manager is inviting all Loop business to a forum dedicated to businesses and business leaders in our community. On Friday, July 7 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the Walton Building, 300 S. Providence Road, the City’s consultant for this search will be hosting a forum open to businesses to gather feedback that will help shape the position profile to be used throughout the process of finding a new police chief.
The City understands that our business community plays an integral role in making Columbia successful and they value your opinion as leaders and members of our community. I hope you will consider participating in this forum on the 7th--and please share this information with anyone you feel would be interested in participating.
Additionally, please take part in a survey being conducted by the City and its consultant as part of this search. It can be found at BeHeard.CoMo.gov/city-of-columbia-police-chief-search and will be open throughout the search process. Please feel free to share this link.
We cannot stress how important it is for the Business Loop and our concerns to have a part in this key decision so if you or a representative from your business cannot attend, please make sure to fill out the survey.
