The City has received a Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grant to complete a Road Safety Audit (RSA) of the Business Loop. This process will focus ways to make travel safer for cars, pedestrians, and bikes and make some detailed recommendations for proven safety measures.
What are proven safety measures? They are best practices designed to increase safety by reducing speeding, adding pedestrian signals to intersections, adding lighting, or even something as simple as street sweeping to remove broken glass and other debris.
The goal is to start the planning process as quickly as possible, while Hickman High and MACC Community College students are still in session. Work will include public meetings, walking audits, crash data analysis, and more.
This project has a smaller scope than the RCN Planning Grant and will allow us to take a deeper dive into bike and pedestrian safety along our street. The RSA recommendations will be integrated into the larger RCN plan and anticipated capital improvement project but some recommendations could be funded and completed prior to this.
