The City of Columbia City Manager Mike Matthes seeks public input as he works to form the Vision Zero Action Plan.
Vision Zero is an international movement, designed to improve the safety and well-being of communities. It is a philosophy of transportation system design and operations that asserts: safety is the most important factor in transportation planning; traffic deaths and serious injuries are preventable and, therefore, unacceptable; transportation systems should be designed so that user errors are not fatal.
The Columbia City Council recently adopted the Vision Zero Policy, and set a goal of eliminating all traffic deaths and serious injuries by 2030 through three key areas of focus: education, enforcement, and engineering.
Join the City at any of the Vision Zero World Cafe meetings to provide your input as the City and community work together to create the Vision Zero Action Plan. The first session will focus on the area of education and the group will discuss and review each of the education recommendations made in the final report of the Mayor's Task Force on Pedestrian Safety. It is the City's intention to further shape and define those recommendations into an Action Plan so that City staff and partners can begin implementation. The city manager will submit a final Action Plan to the City Council by April 30, 2017. The City wants to know how citizens envision these recommendations coming to fruition or what changes should be made.
