We built a park!

Remember this vacant lot?

Neither do we because this is what it looks like now!

Over 100 volunteers gathered on the Business Loop this past Saturday to help build a park on a vacant lot owned by Boone Electric Cooperative. Volunteers built tables, painted shipping containers, laid astroturf, strung lights, and brought some color to the pavement with some creative painting techniques. Kids even painted rocks to place in our planters!

But that's not all--we also built a Bike Repair Station on the west end of the street thanks to support from the Columbia Board of Realtors and Parkade Plaza. It's near the new MKT-Parkade Bike Boulevard and provides tools, air, and a nice place to rest for cyclists.

We have so many people to thank for making this possible: Boone Electric Cooperative and Parkade Plaza for donating space; the Columbia Board of Realtors for helping with grant funding; Sherwin-Williams, CMSE Giving Gardens, and Orscheln Farm & Home for donating supplies; Huebert Builders for loaning us their Vice President for the duration of the project; the entire crew at Boone Electric and their forklifts; and ForColumbia, a collection of local churches, for organizing all the volunteers. And of course, big thanks to all the folks on the street, local realtors, community members, and spouses and children who pitched in!
